Monday Masters.
Mondays are devoted to talking about art. Through discussion students develop a
knowledge of different styles of artists and artwork. They are able to apply what they learn and observe; identifying the elements and principles of art, interpreting the meaning of art, and ultimately contributing to thoughtful insights about their own artwork.
Here are some artists and museums we have visited this year:
"Starry Night"
Vincent van Gogh
A classic. Students warmed up with art criticism by identifying the elements and principles of art in this masterpiece.

"Freedom from Want"
Norman Rockwell
This is one of the Four Freedom paintings by Rockwell during the time of World War II.
Students studied the realistic art of Norman Rockwell and discussed how visual content can infer meaning in art. The class discussed how inferring meaning in art relates to inferring meaning in reading. Students picked out "clues" or evidence to substantiate their thoughts on why the artist painted what he painted.
